General

Cardboard is a browser-based AI-powered video editor. You can upload video footage, edit it using plain-English AI commands or manual timeline editing, and export professional-quality videos — all from your browser.
No. Cardboard runs entirely in your browser. There is nothing to install. You just need a modern browser like Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge.
Cardboard is optimized for desktop and laptop browsers. You can access it on tablets, but the full editing experience works best on a screen that is at least 13 inches wide.
Yes. Your media files are encrypted in transit and at rest. Cardboard does not use your content to train AI models. Only you and people you share a project with can access your files.
Cardboard works best on the latest versions of Chrome and Edge. Safari and Firefox are also supported. We recommend Chrome for the best performance.

AI editing

You type a plain-English instruction in the AI Chat panel (for example, “trim to the best 30 seconds” or “add captions”). The AI analyzes your video, decides what to do, and applies the edits to your timeline. You can see exactly what changed and undo anything. Learn more in Editing with AI Chat.
The AI can trim, split, and rearrange clips. It can create montages, add transitions, generate captions, adjust pacing, add music, apply effects, find specific moments in your footage, and much more. See the AI Prompts Cheat Sheet for examples.
Yes. Every AI edit can be undone with Cmd/Ctrl + Z or by typing “Undo that” in the AI Chat. Your original media files are never modified.
The AI Chat currently accepts instructions in English. However, the AI can transcribe and caption videos in 20+ languages. See Auto-Generated Captions for the full list.
Captions are highly accurate for clear audio in supported languages. You can always review and edit captions after they are generated. Background noise or overlapping speakers may reduce accuracy.
